How to get the most out of your Shark vacuum cleaner
So you’ve received your brand new Shark vacuum cleaner, set it up and tried it – there’s nothing like experiencing that Shark clean! But once you’ve got to grips with your new product, how do you keep the magic going?
A little maintenance can go a long way towards keeping your new vacuum cleaner in tip-top condition.
Here are 4 small things you can do to get the most out of your Shark vacuum.
Wash your filters
Your vacuum cleaner’s filters do an important job, removing dust and allergens from the air sucked in by your vacuum. If the dust that they trap isn’t regularly cleaned away they can become blocked, which can result in poor suction over time.
Check your Instruction Booklet for details of where your unit’s removable filters are and how to access them – simply tap off loose dirt then rinse them under a tap. We recommend you clean your Shark vacuum’s filters every month – but always remember to let them air dry thoroughly before replacing them.
Tidy before you vacuum
It’s tempting to try and vacuum around your possessions, rather than moving things out of the way, especially if you’ve got guests on the way – but accidentally running over power cables, clothes or children’s toys can cause havoc with your machine.
It only takes moments to tidy floors before you start vacuuming and could result in a much speedier clean – put loose objects away in their rightful homes and lift cables out of the way or keep them together with a cable tidy.
Check for blockages
Although you should do your best to tidy up before vacuuming, occasionally you may accidentally vacuum up something that you shouldn’t have.
If you think you may have a blockage, take your vacuum cleaner apart and check for blockages section by section. If you have an upright vacuum, first remove the handle and check if there is any suction once turned on – if not, there may be an obstruction in the handle or hose. If this section is clear, or if you have a stick vacuum, look through the wand to ensure nothing has become lodged in the pipe. Finally, check the arm of the floorhead – where you connect the wand – for blockages.

Take advantage of your accessories
If you’re not using your accessories, you’re not getting the most out of your Shark vacuum! Every model comes with a specially designed selection of tools.
The crevice tool is perfect for getting into tight corners such as down the sides of sofa cushions, in between Venetian blind slats and around skirting boards. Your upholstery brush is not just great for the sofa, but perfect for any soft furnishings including curtains, your pet’s bedding and even your favourite winter coat.
